Patricia started working in the Language Services industry as a company director for All About Languages in 2017 after her late mother became ill.
Elected as an Executive Board Member of the AALC (Australian Association of Language Companies) in Oct 2020, Patricia has demonstrated her passion to learn and improve within the industry by participating in events and approaching the AALC for matters around managing an Language Service Company. Patricia has extensive experience working in the Pharmaceutical Industry where she was successful in sales and account management and worked across many parts of Australia, her favourite being in the Top End. Her passion for helping others is demonstrated by her active involvement in Surf Life Saving in Adelaide where she was a trainer and crew member of the Jet Boat State Rescue Service. Now, Patricia’s focus is on providing inspiration and support to her team of Interpreters, translators and staff at All About Languages, where the goal is to provide professional services whilst demonstrating empathy where technology cannot. |
Our Story
Who are we? all about languages began in 2003 but the roots of our story started long before my mother Alice Jaworski decided to dedicate her life to her business of interpreting and translating to benefit others who like her and her family, experienced the difficulty of communicating in other languages.
During the Second World War, Alice’s grand-father was taken away by the invading troops from his family home in Poland and was never seen again. Around the same time his wife and daughter Helene were sent to a concentration camp in Siberia where for 5 years, they had to dig beetroot from the frozen ground.
After the war, they were able to come back to Poland and young Helene married Jean; soon after, she gave birth to a daughter, Alice. But the family craved a better life so they packed their treasured belongings into a single suitcase and Helene, Jean, the little Alice and Helene’s mother moved to France for a new beginning.
As a child, Alice quickly learnt the language of her new country but it was very hard for the rest of the family who had to rely on their daughter and Polish acquaintances. Nevertheless, everyone finally mastered French enough to find decent jobs so they were able to enjoy life again. Then, Alice met a young man who came to visit some friends and relatives. Jim was living in Australia; soon they got married and she followed him to Tasmania in 1977.
As a migrant in a country growing increasingly culturally diverse, Alice fell in love with Australia but still experienced the challenges that came with starting life again in a strange place and having to learn a new language. 15 years later, her parents and grand-mother migrated to Australia; naturally, Alice’s English drastically improved so she was able to help them settle as comfortably as possible. Having experienced the hardship of migrating to another country twice, Alice thought of helping others in the same predicament and she became a French and Polish interpreter; at the time, no qualification was required; you just had to fluently speak the languages and it was enough. She was also actively involved in various communities helping them to overcome language and cultural barriers. She was on the Board of the Migrant Resource Centre and became the first Tasmanian member of the Australian Institute of Interpreters and Translators known as AUSIT.
Seeing a desperate need for services in Launceston and in the North of the State, she began laying the foundations of a dedicated communication program that would assist migrants to assimilate. Through positive and fruitful connections with many organisations and government agencies, she facilitated the training of migrants in interpreting and translating, focusing essentially on the very new AUSIT Code of Ethics; many of these professionals are still part of our team. Under Alice’s excellent leadership, All About Languages became a respected and efficient communication agency servicing Tasmania and Western Australia.
In 2017, Alice, who was terminally ill, had the joy to see that her life work would not stop with her. Indeed, her daughter Patricia became the new director of All About Languages. Undeniably, she has the same passion as her mother but she is also very determined to make it grow and for this, she does not hesitate to innovate with the most advanced technology.
With her team of over 500 interpreters and translators based around Australia, All About Languages still provides onsite and phone interpreting services in 145 languages and dialects in Tasmania and Western Australia, but now has expanded to provide Video Remote Interpreting Services. Furthermore, All About Languages offers translating services all over Australia.
All of our interpreters and translators are either accredited with the National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters (NAATI) or assessed by our agency for their professionalism and ethical practice. Though certification is a great achievement, Patricia is very aware that laws, cultures and even languages evolve so she encourages her team to update their knowledge and skills; she also provides and organises regular training.
all about languages has a tender with the Tasmanian Health Service in Tasmania covering the major Hospitals and other community services across the state as well as the Department of State Growth. We also hold a current tender with the Department of Human Services, Australia-wide; and we provide services to other clients such as NDIS, Department of Justice, Legal organizations, insurance companies, job network agencies, schools as well as other businesses and individuals.
Furthermore, all about languages services also include teaching, coaching, tutoring, multi-cultural consulting and tourism.
all about languages' aim is to provide services of the highest professional standard to non-English speakers and prove that despite the technology and growing accuracy of machine translation, humans are tremendously more valuable when their professionalism includes empathy, which is one of Patricia’s and All About Languages’ pre-requisite to join the team.
